Jump on the Chip ship before it sets sail

Selling you on Chip Kelly

Forget what you heard, forget the one game you watched him coach, forget all the other college coaches, Chip Kelly is different. Whatever Chip Kelly would have done, he would have been successful doing it. He has gotten to where he was, and he was hired as YOUR new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles because he worked to get there. Chip Kelly has an innovative mind, which is perfect for the new age NFL. You can forget about the old time, smash mouth, wishbone offense, running behind big fullbacks, get over it, that's not how the NFL is right now. Can that day come back? Sure it can. We've seen the NFL change every couple of years, but right now Chip Kelly's scheme is what is going on in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers beating the Green Bay Packers last weekend is the perfect example of the new age NFL. The Washington Redskins are another example of the new, read option, spread it out, creating mismatches type of offense that the Eagles will be running for the next 3-5 years, and if successful, even more. Chip is just a football junkie, he eats, sleeps, and breaths football all day long. He travels all around the country to talk football with some of the best football minds, including Bill Belichick. Chip once went to Tulsa to talk their head coach about the offense he had. Chip took the flight, rented a car, went to the facilities, talked football for hours, went back to the airport and went home. He didn't stop and sight see, he has no interest in that, he just wants his fix. He doesn't have any hobbies, apparently he golfs every once in a while...but he's terrible. He's never been married, he doesn't have children, football is his life.

We've all heard the arguments against Chip Kelly and other college coaches, but it's old and it no longer makes sense. Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll have proven everyone wrong, both that they are former college coaches and that they run similar offenses to Kelly. No, Steve Spurrier never worked out in the NFL, but that's only because he never actually worked...in the NFL. Spurrier was used to his minions doing all the work for him while he golfed. People tell stories of when Spurrier walked into his first meeting of training camp with the Redskins, he told his players that training camp was pointless and they just needed to get through it. Kelly is anal about football, he demands excellence and focus. He would never have a QB like Mike Vick, because Mike would never be able to keep up with him. Kelly's offense is based on seeing what the opponent is going to do, and then counter punch them in the face. Speaking of that, he's aggressive, and not just aggressive like more aggressive than Reid. I'm talking about fake punts and field goals, going for 2 point conversations and going for it on 4th and inches when you're yelling at your TV to do the same thing. I could be wrong, Chip Kelly could fail and fall flat on his face, but it's worth the risk in my opinion. If nothing else, Chip gets it, he's the polar opposite of the Walrus. In his first game at Oregon, they lost to Boise St, the game LeGarrette Blount punched a BSU player, after receiving a angry letter from a fan, Chip mailed him a $439 check to pay for his travel expenses...and all we wanted was some questions answered at press conferences.
